Research has shown that long-term weight maintenance is nearly impossible without exercise. Also, people who exercise are less likely to develop chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. Those with chronic diseases find they’re better able to control their diseases if they exercise regularly. With that in mind, the Walk-A-Weigh program focuses on physical activity. Each week, program participants obtain information on healthy eating habits to assist with weight loss followed by time designated for walking. Presentations include topics such as reducing fat in recipes, understanding nutrition labels, substituting herbs and spices for salt, and maintaining weight loss.
