The following additional information may help clarify the requirement for Volunteer Service hours and Continuing Education hours.

VOLUNTEER SERVICE HOURS

1.  A total of 100 Volunteer Service hours are required to satisfactorily complete the course.

2.  Service hours should be obtained in the following categories:

        a.  Office: 40 hours answering gardening questions.

        b.  Demo Garden: 35 hours tending the garden. Planting, mulching, pulling weeds, watering etc.

        c.  Other hours: 25 hours includes special projects such as Demo Garden Open House, working on the newsletter, working with 4-H youth, etc.

3.  Extra hours worked in the office or demo garden may be applied to the “Other” category.

4.  Hours worked in the Demonstration Garden during Part One of the program will be counted toward the volunteer service hour’s requirement for that category.  Hours recorded for work in the other two categories may not begin until you enter Part Two of the program.

CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS

Twelve hours are required for continuing education during Part Two of the program (December 2006 through November 2007).  There will be additional opportunities to earn more education hours.
